Through the generous funding of the RK Mellon Foundation, First Year Orientation features the Pittsburgh Connections Fair and the Pittsburgh Connections Kick-Off Events. Questions about either of these programs can be directed to Student Activities at 412-268-8704.
Pittsburgh Connections Fair
The fair typically features approximately 30 outdoor recreation providers from the Pittsburgh region, recreation-based student organizations and other campus-centered recreational opportunities, and Pittsburgh arts and cultural venue representatives for students to make connections with and gain information about. Students have the opportunity to learn about the exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities that exist in the area, sign up to receive information from the organizations of their choice, and even be entered into a drawing to win great prizes. Students do not need to register to participate in the fair. This year's fair will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. in the Baker Lawn tent. Pittsburgh Connections Kick-Off Events
This year's kick-off events featured more than 10 free outdoor recreation trips to various locations in the Pittsburgh area. No experience or equipment is needed to participate! These trips are a great way to get to know more about the Pittsburgh area, create memories with friends, and try something new. While a few locations are within walking distance, transportation is provided to all sites further from campus. If the trips overlap with an orientation meal time on campus, bagged meals will be provided. Click on the documents below to read a description for each trip.
Students will sign-up for the trips at designated times throughout orientation. Please refer to the orientation schedule for specifics.
Sign-Ups and Waivers for Students Under the Age of 18
Students under 18 on August 27, 2011 must have a legal guardian sign the necessary waivers on their behalf. For these students only, registration can be submitted in advance of orientation. Please click on the trip of your choice below, download the forms, fill them out, and have your legal guardian sign the appropriate sections and return them via fax to 412-268-5938 or email a signed copy to Taylor Grabowsky.
Waiver forms for individuals under the age of 18 will not be accepted in this manner after Sunday, August 21, 2011. If these students have not submitted their forms by Sunday, they must bring completed forms that have been signed by their legal guardian to sign up the scheduled sign-ups for during orientation. Please note that there are limited numbers of spaces available on each trip so don't delay in turning in your forms to secure your spot!
