Panhellenic Association Recruitment Process

Interested in Sorority Life?

We are gearing up for an exciting Formal Membership Recruitment this fall!  Here is the Schedule of Events for August and September!

I Am Ready to Be Greek...How Do I Sign Up?

Signing up for FMR has never been easier! You need to fill out a short online registration so that we can get to know you!  There is a $11 registration fee, which can be paid online via credit card.  Click here to be directed to Recruitment Registration.

I have Questions About Sorority Life...Who Can I Talk To?

You've got questions...we've got answers!  There are Greek women, called recruitment counselors, who are ready to tell you all about Greek Life and how you can get involved! These women are currently disaffiliated from their houses in order to be completely unbiased as they help you through the process of deciding which house is the best fit for you!  Don't hesitated to ask any Greek about their experience or how you can go through the Recruitment Process...if they don't know the answer, they can direct you to a Recruitment Counselor, who will be able to provide you with all of the information you need to know!

I Have Heard About Greek Life...How Do I Know If It Is Right For Me?

The Greek experience is different for every single member of the Greek community!
It is not a cookie-cutter experience that is right or wrong for any one type of person.  The best way to find out more about where you fit into the Greek community is to speak to Greeks at CMU, come to events, and find out what it is all about!  There are events during orientation week as well as several information sessions and activities in the first few weeks of school.  An easy way to find more information is to talk to the recruitment counselors sitting outside of Doherty Hall, during the first few weeks of school, check out each of the House's website links, and come to the information events!

Structured Recruitment

The fall recruitment process for the sororities (Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma) is a structured recruitment. To avoid conflicts with classes, recruitment events are held in the evenings and on weekend days. Participants attend events at all participating chapters on Thursday and Friday night and Saturday and Sunday. Recruitment is a mutual selection process. After Friday's events, potential members rank their preferences and the sororities submit invitation lists. On Friday, each potential new member will be scheduled to attend to up to four events. The process repeats and on Saturday, each potential new member will be scheduled to attend to up to three events. The final invitational event is held on Sunday, with two Preference Parties which are more formal in nature.

After the Preference Parties, potential new members rank their choices and the sororities submit a preference list. To promote equity in the recruitment process, each sorority is permitted to only accept a maximum number of women, so a "bid matching" process determines which sorority each participant will join. Most participants are pledged to the chapter they list as their first choice after the Preference Parties.
