How to Give to Your Chapter

The Student Life Office in partnership with the Office of Annual Giving and Student Activities has created Oracle string accounts for each fraternity and sorority at Carnegie Mellon. Each organization has two accounts, one for operations and one for educational purposes.

Money in the operational account can be used for any purpose the chapter deems sufficient, however donations into this account are NOT tax deductible by the donor.

Money donated to the educational purposes account must be used for scholarships, leadership development, and certain housing improvements.

Money donated to the educational purposes account is tax deductible by the donor.

Alumni are able to donate in the following ways:

Online - Go to http://www.cmu.edu/giving/give.shtml, and from the pull-down "Designation" menu select "Other" and then enter the name of your chapter in the "Comments" box. Follow the rest of the steps and you're done.

Mail - When alumni get an appeal through the mail from the Office of Annual Giving, they should fill out the pledge card and make note of your chosen chapter allocation. Then mail it, along with a check (made out to Carnegie Mellon University) or credit card info, back to Carnegie Mellon in the envelope provided.

Phone - Throughout the year, the Student Telefund Program attempts to reach alumni. The student caller will be happy to help alumni make a donation allocated to their chapter. Or you can call the Office of Annual Giving at 412-268-2021 to make your donation.
