Why did you decide to become Greek? I became Greek because I was searching for an opportunity that would give me a well-balanced college experience. Going through recruitment, I saw that the Greek community offered the chance to better myself not only in scholarship, leadership and service, but also the chance to hold myself to a higher standard.
What is your best Greek memory? My best Greek memory was Bid Night 2006. I will never forget opening my bid envelope, seeing the name of my top choice, and being able to run into a crowd of girls who would soon become not only my sisters, but my lifetime friends.
What has been your favorite Greek event at Carnegie Mellon? Why? My favorite Greek event occurs every spring: Greek Sing! I remember watching the show my freshman year when I was not affiliated, and thinking that there was no way that I was going to miss the chance to participate in an event like that. For the past two years, Greek Sing has offered the entire Greek community the chance to bond within their house, as well as with other houses. It is the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together, raise money for a wonderful philanthropy, and have some fun while doing it!
How has being Greek prepared you in life? My experience being Greek as taught me many invaluable lessons. My leadership experiences have taught me how to be organized, manage time efficiently, delegate to a large group, and take responsibility for my actions. In addition, being Greek has held me to higher standard academically, as well as allowed me to be involved with many service opportunities. Most of all, my experience has taught me that there is always something greater than oneself. Whether it is your sorority, university, or place of work, you are always representing something larger. As a result, I have learned to take personal accountability for all of my actions, a quality that I hope I will carry on throughout life.
