Buggy

The Sweepstakes or "buggy" competition is an engineering and athletic event between student organizations at CMU. The basic idea is for each organization to design a small, streamlined single-person vehicle. These vehicles are then entered in various competitions.

Organizations spend all year designing and building buggies, and practicing for races. In addition, each buggy to be raced must qualify, which involves completing a certain number of practice runs and passing safety and other inspections. The actual competition occurs during Spring Carnival, when buggies are not only raced, but also judged on design and other characteristics.
