GLBT Resources

Under the umbrella organization of SOHO, the Student Life Office coordinates a number of programs and resources designed to support the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) community on campus, as well as to raise awareness about issues affecting the GLBT community.

SafeZone is a network of allies (faculty, staff and students) committed to providing a safe and affirming environment for all at Carnegie Mellon, including anyone dealing with issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. By displaying a SafeZone sign in their work or living space, members of the SafeZone network actively show their support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons. Student Life also provides advising support to ALLIES, a student organization which offers programs and resources for people of any sexual orientation on issues related to sexual identity. ALLIES also serves as the GLBT and friends social organization on campus. To learn more, visit their website.

Speak Your Mind is a series of monthly dinner conversations on current topics, including those related to sexual identity and the GLBT community. Visit the Speak Your Mind calendar for a list of upcoming discussions.

The Student Life Office provides an internship experience in Gender and GLBT programming and education. The internship is a one-year, paid position.  For more information about the internship, click here.

Created by a student, Plateful of Pride is a program where participants(regardless of sexual orientation) engage in conversation about their knowledge, experiences and feelings about GLBT issues. The program is facilitated by students and can be brought to your House or organization. For more information, contact Julian Arney or Rowshan Palmer.

Housing & Dining Services offers Gender Neutral Housing.  Located in the Oakland Community Apartments, this option allows upperclass male and female students to reside in the same room.  For more information, visit Housing & Dining Services.
