Paying for Medical Care
No one will be refused treatment on the basis of ability or inability to pay for medical care.
The rape kit and examination at the hospital can be billed to the survivor’s insurance company. If she or he does not have insurance or does not want his or her parent’s insurance to be billed, there is money available from the state of Pennsylvania to cover costs of medical and psychological care as well as lost wages for survivors of sexual assault. Eligibility for the Victim’s Compensation Fund requires that survivors file a police report within 72 hours of the assault.
Monetary concerns should not interfere with medical treatment. Emergency loans are available from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs but this should not be necessary in most cases because of funding from the sources listed above. We will work with survivors to ensure that they receive the care that they need and that the costs for such care are covered.
