Phase II: Written Application Materials

Due to a University-wide system shut-down yesterday, many applicants were not able to submit their application. We have since updated deadlines to allow for later submission and scheduling. If you emailed Alauna Peterson any of your materials, you will still need to manually upload your documents. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Submission of online application materials is the first step in your application process. You will need to complete the online RA application to complete your personal profile and upload ONE document which contains BOTH your cover letter and resume.

Note: as part of the profile, you will be asked to consent to a check of your university academic record and judicial record to determine whether you are an enrolled student in good standing with university. Applicants who have an academic or judicial history that could have some negative impact on their candidacy will be contacted by a Housefellow to discuss the situation.

Preparing the Written Materials

The one-page cover letter should provide a general introduction regarding your candidacy for the RA position. As such, the cover letter should discuss:

  • your interest in and motivation for serving as an RA in the 2008-09 academic year;
  • a summary of your vision for the impact you hope to have as an RA;
  • a summary of the relevant skills, strengths and personal characteristics that you believe will facilitate your success in delivering on that vision; and
  • any special information or considerations that you would like to make us aware of that pertain to your candidacy or placement (such as financial, academic or personal considerations that affect where you can reasonably serve as an RA).

The resume should provide a summary of the past and current job experiences, curricular experiences, and extracurricular activities in which you have participated. It can capture any relevant areas of involvement in both high school and college, as well as any special achievements or recognitions that you may have received. The resume should include the names and contact information for 2-3 references who can speak to your readiness to successfully engage in the RA position.

Please visit the Career Center for tips on preparing a resume and cover letter.

IMPORTANT: The deadline for submitting your written materials is Friday January 25, 2008 at 8:00 am . Your resume, cover letter, and application profile must all be submitted for your written application to be considered complete.
