Mixed-Class Houses

These house communities leverage the benefits of having a healthy range of students from all class years. All residents – from first year to senior – benefit in the ideas generated when students who have a variety of experiences at Carnegie Mellon interact and share their talents with each other. These houses are some of the largest at Carnegie Mellon and are characterized by strong house identities, active leadership opportunities for residents, and long-standing traditions that are maintained year after year.

Morewood Gardens

The largest of the house communities, Morewood Gardens is home to over 450 residents of all academic years.  Students in this house have a significant amount of pride for their House and the community within.  This is expressed through various programs such as Saturday night "Up Late", Morewood Mondays, IntraMorewood Games, and the 'UpperGround'.  It is also exemplified by the casual conversations and interactions that take place in the lounges and other public spaces.

Mudge House

Known for its beautiful architecture and traditional charm, the former home of the Mudge Family provides an appropriate platform for the "Mudge experience." Students here are strongly encouraged to be an active participant in long-standing traditions focued on artistic and intellectual development, including open mic nights, the annual Dinner with the Deans, performances in the piano room, and the social change lecture series "Local Currents."
