Artistic & Intellectual Development
The Student Development Office coordinates several programs and opportunities to enhance intellectual and artistic development.
The University Lecture Series (ULS), organized by the Office of the Vice Provost for Education, offers a lecture or speaker most Mondays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm in the Adamson Wing. Special lectures in the series include the Journeys lecture series, the Cutting Edge Café, and the LaPaglia Lecture. For a list of upcoming lectures, please visit the ULS website.
The Intermissions series features small music, drama, spoken word, and dance performances in Kirr Commons on most Wednesdays throughout the academic year "to inspire you and brighten your day".
The Speak Your Mind discussion and dinner series encourages campus members to participate in dialogue related to current events, gender awareness, GLBT issues, multicultural concerns, and spirituality. For a list of upcoming discussions, visit its website.
The University Center Art Gallery is located on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University at 5000 Forbes Avenue in Oakland, inside the University Center. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm during the academic semester.
The Summit Conference provides students an opportunity to explore intellectual and personal interests outside of regular coursework. The three day smorgasbord of classes and workshops occurs immediately before the start of the Spring Semester. Specific information about Summit and becoming involved with the program can be found on the website here.
Additionally, the Student Development Office often subsidizes tickets and promotes events for artistic and intellectual events around the city. For Spring 2008, we will be selling student tickets for all of the Drue Heinz Lectures.
For more information about any of these programs, please contact Thomas Witholt via email or in the Student Development Office at (412) 269-9510.
