Your House Experience
Your residential experience at Carnegie Mellon is organized by the House in which you choose to live. We have an eclectic array of living options, each with its own character and traditions. As a first year student you are likely to live in one of the large first year house such as Donner or New House. As you progress in your tenure at Carnegie Mellon you will have more varied choices as to the type of house experience in which you choose to participate. Each house is staffed by energetic and talented upperclassmen who serve as Resident Assistants and Community Advisors.
Resident Assistants are assigned to each floor of the house and focus on creating a strong sense of community among your floormates. Each house has a Community Advisor, usually a senior, who is responsible for the program goals of the house community. The CAs work with RAs and students to provide a rich and vibrant living environment.
There is a member of the Division of Student Affairs, known as a housefellow, associated with each house. The Housefellow is responsible for creating an environment in which the students and staff can thrive. Your housefellow is someone for you to talk with about everything from roommates to academic concerns.
