Campus Conversations: A Deliberative Loop on America's Role in the Global Community
Connan Room, University Center

For the past five years, Carnegie Mellon University has been using the concept and practice of Deliberative Polling® and other forms of democratic dialogue to inform the work of campus decision makers. The first systematic use of such protocols at the campus level, the Campus Conversations initiative seeks to provide a new forum for information dissemination and community feedback, promote a commitment to civic engagement and social responsibility, and encourage substantive interaction among individuals and groups who traditionally do not interact in the context of daily life within the community.

This Campus Conversation will focus on America¹s role in the global community and encourage dialogue around issues of diplomacy. In preparation for the deliberation, all participants will receive a copy of the Issue Guide on America¹s Global Role developed by Public Agenda, a community partner of the Campus Conversations initiative. A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, the two-fold mission of Public Agenda is to help American leaders better understand the public's point of view and to help citizens know more about critical policy issues so they can make thoughtful, informed decisions.

Dinner will be served at the Campus Conversation and advance registration is required to ensure adequate seating. To reserve a space at the deliberative loop and dinner, please email campusconversationscmu@gmail.com . The Campus Conversations program is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs with support from the Center for the Advancement of Applied Ethics and Political Philosophy (CAAEPP).
