OPT application sessions for Spring graduates
OIE will offer OPT information/application sessions for F1 students who will be completing their program in the Spring Semester. If you are planning to apply for OPT this semester, you must attend one of these application sessions rather than scheduling an individual appointment with your OIE advisor. OPT applications typically take 6-8 weeks to be processed by US Citizenship & Immigration Services.
Sessions will be held from 12 noon to 1 pm once or twice weekly in Warner Hall beginning on 1/30/06.
OPT sessions are scheduled for:
1/30, 2/6, 2/9, 2/13, 2/14, 2/15, 2/20, 2/21, 2/22, 2/27, 2/28, 3/1, 3/7, 3/8, 3/14, 3/15, 3/21, 3/22, 3/28, 4/3, 4/10, 4/11, 4/19, 4/25, 5/1, 5/9, 5/17
For specific locations and to register for a session, students must call OIE at: 412-268-5231.
Prior to attending the session, you must read the OPT instructions (here) and have your academic advisor complete the OPT recommendation form in the instruction packet. Bring this completed form, along with your I-20, passport and I-94 to the session. You should also try to complete form I-765 and bring that to the session. The I-765 form is available from OIE (in the OPT handout) or online at: http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/i-765.pdf
Please arrive on time. Students who arrive late will need to reschedule for another day.
Graduate students in Tepper, ECE, and the MISM programs may choose to attend a session in their school. Details about the school-based OPT sessions will be announced separately.
Students in J1 status who are expecting to complete their program this semester should read the handout on Academic Training (here) and schedule an appointment with their J1 Responsible Officer (an OIE advisor if CMU issued your DS-2019).
