Office of International Education
Eva Mergner
Eva Mergner is the Senior Coordinator for Study Abroad and Exchange Programs for Carnegie Mellon University. In this capacity, Eva works with Emily Half, Coordinator for Study Abroad and International Programming, and a team student staff to manage all study abroad activities for Carnegie Mellon, including promotion, advising advocacy, administration and programming. Using an academic department based model to promote study abroad and advise students, Eva has primary responsibility for departments in CIT, SCS, MCS, CFA and the Heinz School. Eva is also a campus representative for prestigious scholarships such as: Fulbright, Boren/NSEP Scholarship, Gilman and Freeman-ASIA.
In addition to coordinating study abroad activities, Eva leads the efforts in strategic planning and research for study abroad with the goal of creating a dynamic study abroad program that is specifically relevant to Carnegie Mellon students. This includes participating in university committee work such as being a member of the Global Working Group that addresses issues surrounding integration of global issues into and beyond the curriculum.
Eva’s professional affiliations include: NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Forum on Education Abroad. Eva is also part of the Membership Committee for the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) and she is a board member of IIE Passport.
Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon University in 1994, Eva taught Spanish both at the high school and college level. Eva’s educational background includes a Masters of Arts in Intercultural Communication from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a Bachelor of Arts from Bennington College in Spanish Literature with concentrations in dance and ceramics.
Eva believes that study abroad is a personally transformative experience for students; it is also an essential element in educating future generations to truly understand other cultures and people who view their field of study and the world differently.
