Emily Half

Emily Half is a Coordinator for Study Abroad and International Programming both in the Office of International Education and the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs. As a Coordinator for Study Abroad, Emily works specifically in advising students in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences and the Tepper School of Business. She also works with college departments in H&SS and Tepper to emphasize the importance of educational opportunities abroad, identify common goals for programs that students attend, and ways in which return abroad students can contribute to home departments. Special responsibilities include work and volunteer abroad and programming for returned students. Emily orchestrates local and university scholarship opportunities including the Vira I. Heinz Scholarship for Education Abroad, the Mary Ellen Cranell Naylor Study Abroad Award and the Tartans Abroad Fund: Scholarship for Short-term Experiences Abroad.

Emily also coordinates international and global programming opportunities for the entire campus community through the annual International Festival and the Orientation Community Collage. Emily also serves as the Housefellow to Boss and McGill Houses- a residential house community of 140 mixed-class students including the all first-year special living-learning community Global Studies House. Emily serves on the President’s Diversity Advisory Council and co-chairs the Diversity Advisory Council Undergraduate Work Group.

Emily joined Carnegie Mellon in 2000 as the coordinator of multicultural initiatives, a publications specialist and as a Housefellow. Prior to Carnegie Mellon, Emily taught English composition and rhetoric at the Pennsylvania State University. Emily’s educational background includes a Masters of Arts in English from the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University in English and Spanish.

Emily finds her passion in helping students develop a global community consciousness. Whether in her work with study abroad, international programming or as a Housefellow, Emily focuses on engaging global perspectives, enriching cultural experience and empowering community action amongst students.
