Emerging Leaders

Emerging Leaders is a great way to begin your leadership journey at Carnegie Mellon.  With a focus on the self-exploration and discovery of personal values and goals for first year students, Emerging Leaders allows students to meet and connect with many other first years while exploring qualities and values associated with successful leaders and ultimately creating personal mission statement.

The program begins with an overnight retreat focused on team development and concludes with a closing reception.  Each team of Emerging Leaders will be grouped with a member of the faculty, staff, or administration and an upper-class mentor who will serve as facilitators throughout the six-week experience.  Sessions are lead by a combination of facilitators and guest speakers.

Participants from different backgrounds and experiences will have the opportunity to build upon their own training and experiences through contributions to interactive seminars, leadership simulations, and initiatives.

Emerging Leaders takes place in the spring semester.  Applications are available in the fall for this program from the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, 301 Warner Hall. A sample of last year's application is below.
