Headaches

Headaches can be caused by a variety of less-serious (stress, poor posture, not wearing prescribed eyeglasses) or serious conditions.

  • Take an analgesic such as Aleve, Ibuprofen, or Tylenol (acetaminophen) for general headaches; decongestants like Sudafed may be taken to relieve sinus pressure.
  • Taking a warm shower or using a heating pad on the back of the neck may help; cold packs on the forehead or back of the neck can be used instead of heat.
  • Rest in a comfortable and familiar environment.
  • Utilize stress management techniques.
  • Seek medical attention if headache is severe and accompanied by blurred vision, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, is not relieved by over the counter analgesics or if headache is caused by a head injury.
