How can your Carnegie Mellon experience best position you to “really achieve your childhood dreams”? ‘A Conversation with Herb Simon’ – A Nobel Laureate Who Spent Half a Century at Carnegie Mellon

These are the kinds of questions that college students around the world have asked as they enter young adulthood. And who better to ask than the world’s leading authority on the subject of decision-making? During the film interview, Herb Simon answers these and many other questions. Deborah Kelly, HNZ ‘94 & Past President, Andrew Carnegie Society will facilitate the program.

The Intelligent Workplace is a living laboratory for research, demonstration and teaching of high performance workplaces. The facility demonstrates the economic and technical feasibility, as well as social desirability, to design, engineer, construct and operate buildings which consume a small fraction of the energy, while providing significantly improved user satisfaction.

A Historical Tour of Pittsburgh

Dr. Joel Tarr, Caliguiri Professor from the Department of History will present the history of Pittsburgh through a series of images that highlight critical events during the 19th and 20th centuries. Among the themes that will be explored are the rise of the iron and steel industry, labor strife, urban growth, environmental issues, and the redevelopment of the city beginning after World War II as the 19th century city known as "hell with the lid lifted" became the "most livable city in the United States."
