Get Ready... for First Year Orientation 2013

Sunday, August 18 - Sunday, August 25

Going away to college is a big transition, and the Orientation program at Carnegie Mellon is designed to make that transition easier. Orientation is a weeklong program organized by current Carnegie Mellon students to introduce incoming students to each other, the campus and local community.

Over 220 current students will welcome new students to campus and will work hard throughout Orientation to make sure it is a memorable week and a great introduction to life at Carnegie Mellon.

The programs and events on the opening day of Orientation (Sunday, August 18) will be geared to all family members.  Move-in to the residence halls will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 18. Programs will continue throughout the day and will include: information sessions, resource fair, college meetings, overview of student services, etc. After dinner on August 18, all new students will take part in residential activities.  Parents and family members are respectfully asked to depart campus at this point.

Orientation programming will then be exclusively focused on the new students from Monday, August 19 through Sunday, August 25.  The first days of classes will be on Monday, August 26.

Students and family members will receive detailed information about Orientation during the summer months.

A mandatory Orientation is scheduled for international students. This program will take place right before the start of the August 18 program. Contact the Office of International Education at 412.268.5231 for more information.
