Counseling and Psychological Services
Services for Staff and Faculty
Consultation
When assistance is needed to help a distressed student, CAPS provides consultation to Carnegie Mellon staff, faculty, and administrators. Staff and faculty can speak with a therapist in person or by telephone. They may also call for help in making a referral to the Counseling Center. In after-hours emergency situations, a therapist can be reached via the on-call system (see “Crisis Support”).
Personal Referrals
CAPS provides confidential referrals to faculty and staff seeking personal psychotherapy or other mental health resources. Faculty and staff can also access services through CMU’s LifeWorks Employee Assistance Program.
Support for Staff and Faculty Groups
CAPS is available to talk with staff and faculty groups about any kind of emotional or psychological difficulty faced when working with CMU students. We can address a variety of issues, such as:
- late-adolescent/early-adult development
- stress management
- bereavement and loss
- trauma
- problems with depression or anxiety
- substance abuse
- suicide
- eating disorders
- relationships
- sexual identity
To talk about how we might be of help in any of these or other areas, please call 412-268-2922.
