TartanTrak FAQs


I only see 8 resumes in my job posting, but I was sent 32 resumes… where did they come from?

When you request an interview and attach your job, you are given the opportunity to also post to our job board, which you did. So, students can see your job on the job board and they can see your event on our event list.

If a student views it on the job board, it puts a count on “view” but, if that student applies, it sticks the resume in the event bucket. So if you look at your events, you’ll see multiple applicants, some of which came in through some of those views.

If your job were posted for awhile before it were attached to the event, then you would have the job posting bucket open and filling until the job were attached to an event. Once a job was attached, everything would filter into the event bucket. So in that case you would have two buckets. The event batch can be seen by logging into TartanTrak and scrolling down until you see the red bar that says “Review Resumes, make preselects...” Click on your event under that bar to see the list of students that submitted to your event. The job posting batch can be seen by scrolling to the bottom until you see your job library, then scroll to the right to see the number of students that applied. Click on that red number to see the list of students that submitted to your job.


When is my preselect deadline? When is my resume submission deadline? How can I see who has signed up? How many rooms do I have reserved?

You can see the schedule of your deadlines if you log into TartanTrak and click on your event under "upcoming events". The first screen will show you the rooms you have. Then you can click on “view schedule” to see the deadlines and the actual schedule of students.


Can I create my own schedule from the students I met at another event (such as a workshop, information session or job fair)?

If you want to create the whole thing (as in, at a job fair or other event, you would actually work with the students to assign someone the 9am slot and someone else the 9:30am slot, and so on), then change your reservation to a "room only" reservation and your recruiter would just show up that morning with a schedule and we would copy it for our records. To change your event to “room only”, email with the details of your event.

If you just want to add a few students whose resumes your gathered outside of our TartanTrak resume batch, you can use the “add student” box at the bottom of your preselect list to add other students to your list and then preselect them.


How many students can I preselect?

You get twelve (12) preselects if you are doing 30-minute slots, nine (9) if you are doing 45-minute slots, and six (6) if you are doing 60-minute slots. You can choose as many alternates as you want. I would recommend 5-6 per schedule.


Where will my interviews be?

If your room has the name “Interview Room” followed by a number, it is one of the 18 interview rooms located in the Career Center, which is in the lower level of the University Center, located at 5032 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. On very busy recruiting days when we overbook, such as the day after a major job fair, we may use other spaces. If your room has a name other than “Interview Room” followed by a number, please contact the career center at for specific addresses.

How do I make my preselects?

Once you log in and click on "continue", you should then be at the TartanTrak Home page. You will see our calendar of important dates. Scroll down past that and you should see a red bar that says "upcoming events…" Then the next red bar says "review resumes, preselect students, email students…" If you click on your event under that red bar, you should see your list of applicants and be able to hit the preselect button beside the ones you want to meet. The preselect buttons will not appear until your students' resume submission deadline has passed. The preselect buttons will disappear once your preselect deadline has passed. Please contact the career center to extend that deadline if you missed it.


If you would like to send a targeted email out through our system to push more students toward that posting, please send the text and your target audience (i.e. all masters students or all INI students) to <> and she will send an email that will alert those students that fit your description that you really want to meet them.


Can I preselect someone who did not drop their resume directly to me?

When you do your preselects, there is an "add student" button under your list of applicants. You can type in any student’s name and they will be added to your list.


If my preselects and alternates do not fill all my slots, will all students then have access to the empty slots?

We do not open the schedules at Carnegie Mellon. Only those you choose as preselects or alternates will be able to sign up.


I am getting the resumes one at a time, how can I stop it?

If you are receiving the resume one-by-one, you can change that if you log into TartanTrak and scroll to the very bottom to see your job library. If you scroll to the far right and click on edit active job, it will open your job. Then in your job description, scroll down to the section about how to receive your resumes. Under the option to receive them through TartanTrak, you also have to sub-choices. Just make sure you have the option clicked that says to receive them all at once after the resume deadline.


How do I add or remove a job from my interview?

Log into TartanTrak and scroll down until you see the red bar that says "add or remove jobs associated with Interviews". Click on your event under that red bar and the next screen will guide you through attaching the right job.


Can I change my deadlines for resume submission, pre-select, etc.?

You can not make changes to these dates. To have them changed, please email .


In general, how does "preselect" work?

Once you have created an interview schedule in our system, the students can submit their resume to you. The system creates a resume submission deadline (RSD) for the students and a preselect deadline for you. Once the RSD passes, you will have all the resumes. They will be emailed to you in one batch and you can log into TartanTrak to view them. Before midnight on your preselect date, you need to log into TartanTrak and designate which students you want to interview. Those students would then be able to grab a timeslot on your schedule, so your schedule would get created right in TartanTrak. The sign-up process ends at midnight the morning before your arrival, so about 24 hours before your arrival, you can print out your final schedule.
