Identifying "Soft
Skills" in a Job Listing
Job postings can provide you with a wealth of information about the critical
skills needed for success. While the needed technical skills are usually
communicated quite clearly, the non-technical (’soft’) skills may not be as
obvious. Taking the time to identify both types of skills can help you to write
a better cover letter and to interview more effectively. Below is a sample job
listing with some of the soft skills identified through careful reading of the
description. This same technique can also be used when reviewing position
descriptions on TartanTRAK.
