WHAT CAN I DO WITH A DEGREE IN CHEMISTRY?
Chemists . . .
- Deal with the composition, structure, and properties of substances and the transformations they undergo.
- Break matter down to learn its components, and put components together to make new substances.
- Perform laboratory research to gain new knowledge about the substances that make up the world.
- Invent useful synthetic materials.
- Mostly (60%) work in industry.
Specialties
Analytic Chemists - Determine the structure, composition, and nature of substances
and mixtures of substances.
Biochemists - Study the chemical composition and behavior of living things and the
effects of food, drugs, hormones, and other chemicals on organisms.
Environmental Chemists - Use chemistry knowledge to solve environmental problems
such as recycling and toxic waste.
Inorganic Chemists - Study compounds made of elements other than carbon and their
products.
Organic Chemists - Study all compounds made from carbon.
Physical Chemists - Study the physical properties on matter, energy transformations
and quantum effects. Are engaged in finding new and better energy sources.
