Biologists . . .
- Are concerned with the development, structure, funcion, environment, and interactions of plants, animals,
and microorganisms.
- Help solve problems of perserving the environment, increasing food supply, and improving health care.
- Study problems of the order of groups of plants or animals or the molecules that make up their cells.
- Use biotechnology to make or modify products, improve plants or animals, or develop microorganisms for
specific uses.
- Utilize biological processes, via microbial plant or animal cells, or their constituents, to provide goods and
services.

Specialties
Anatomists - Study and examine the structure of organisms, from cell structure to the formation of
tissues and organs.
Biochemists - Study the chemical composition and behavior of living things and the effects of
food, drugs, hormones, and other chemicals on organisms.
Botanists - May study plants and their environments, the mass development of plants, or the
improvement of plants.
Embryologists - Study the development of an animal from a fertilized egg through the hatching
process or birth, and the causes of healthy and abnormal development.
Entomologists - Study insects and their relation to plant and animal life.
Geneticists - Study inheritance and variation of characteristics in forms of life.
Microbiologists - Investigate the growth and characteristics of microscopic organisms such as
bacteria, viruses and mold.
Pharmacologists - Develop or improve drugs and medicines.
Physiologists - Study life functions of plants and animals under normal and abnormal conditions.
