Tuesday, October 6 - The Graduate Decision: Weighing Your Options

Deciding whether or not to go on to a graduate program? How much of an advantage will a graduate degree provide in the job market? Should you enroll right away or wait a few years? This workshop will provide information that could help you make a decision that’s right for you.

October & November- e-Portfolio (my 3D) Training
Career & Professional Development Center, 4:30-5:30 pm

Bring your laptop to this hands-on training session.  We will walk you through the process of creating your own professional e-portfolio in TartanTrak. You will be given ideas on how you can showcase your work and market your accomplishments, experience, leadership and other skills to employers and graduate schools.
Sessions offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October and November. You must sign-up to attend. Space is limited to 10 participants per session.

Wednesday, October 14 –Seeking Employment Opportunities Abroad

This program is designed to help students who are planning to work abroad during the summer or of after graduation to develop a successful international job search strategy.

Thursday, October 15 - Case Interviewing
Rangos 2, 4:30-5:30pm
This workshop will cover why companies conduct case interviews, how they evaluate your performance, and how to prepare for the case interview ahead of time. You will practice with a case interview example to help get you thinking about the types of questions you may see during your interview process.

IT'S NOT TOO EARLY TO THINK ABOUT YOUR SUMMER 2010 INTERNSHIP!  Network with your fellow students and learn about the interesting internships they completed during the summer of 2009.  Many industries will be represented.  Learn about undergraduate research grants as well as popular national internship programs.  BE INFORMED OF YOUR OPTIONS!  GET A JUMP START ON YOUR SUMMER 2010 INTERNSHIP!

Learn what you can and can't negotiate when evaluating a job offer. Discuss how to approach salary negotiation and what strategies to use when approaching your potential employer for other amenities.

Are you interested in learning more about various options for elementary and secondary teaching?  Representatives from alternative teacher certification programs, private school and international teaching as well as options for undergraduate and post graduate state certification programs will be providing insight into a variety of teaching options.  Whether you are considering teaching as a gap year or lifetime career path, this is an essential program for you to attend. Wednesday, November 18 - .GOV Pittsburgh Federal Career Day

Please join us for the 8th Annual Pittsburgh Federal Career Day with over 80 federal, state and local government agencies represented.  Features include a networking breakfast, job fair, keynote speaker, breakout workshops on the job-search process and information sessions by select federal, state and city agencies.

Thursday and Friday, December 17-18 – Futures in Finance
Carnegie Mellon University New York City Facility at 55 Broad Street, NY, NY

This annual event IN NEW YORK CITY is specifically geared towards students seeking summer 2010 internships in and around New York City in the finance industry. There will be a company site visit during the afternoon on Thursday, December 17 to a financial firm and an evening reception with Carnegie Mellon alumni on the evening of Thursday, December 17, 2009. There will be one-on-one internship interviews taking place on Friday December 18, 2009, at the Carnegie Mellon facility on 55 Broad Street in New York City. Please note you must submit your resume to TartanTRAK for all companies participating in Futures in Finance.

Now is the time to perfect your resume and cover letter for the upcoming job fairs and recruiting season!

The key to a productive internship search is to begin early. Many internship opportunities exist, but you have to know where to find them. This program will offer a timeline to follow for your internship search, highlight resources available, and give you methods to help land a great summer opportunity.

Not sure what to expect at a job fair? Searching for ways to stand out from the crowd? Get tips on how to navigate a job fair--learn how to introduce yourself to employers, what to say, how to dress, and much more. Walk away from the next job fair with confidence!
