Dress For Success

A candidate’s professional image is an important part of the job search campaign.  A polished “dressed for success” appearance creates a positive first impression. This is essential so that the employer can move on to learning more about you and your qualifications without any hesitancy. Research literature on interviewing supports that 80% of the hiring decisions are impacted by the first few moments. It is important for you to invest in professional looking attire, in colors and designs that are appropriate for the particular industry and produce confidence. For interviews, conservative attire rather than a fashion statement is best. When in doubt, always wear a suit.

Elements of a Polished Look:
  • pressed clothes and polished shoes
  • little or no cologne/perfume
  • fresh breath
  • clean hair
  • neat fingernails
  • genuine smile

Men:

• charcoal, navy, black or grey suit
• white, long-sleeved dress shirt
• conservative tie
• minimal jewelry (watch and/or ring)
• neatly trimmed hair
• polished shoes

Women:

• classic suit (pants or skirt) and tailored blouse
• minimal makeup and neutral nail polish
• hosiery and knee level hemline
• minimal jewelry
• neatly styled or pulled back hair
• closed-toe shoes with moderate to low heel

The above professional attire is recommended for Job Fairs, Campus Interviews and Site Interviews unless information from the employer clearly states a different recommended dress.
