Pre-Select/Alternate

What “Pre-Select” and “Alternate” mean

Most companies choose to conduct interviews on a “pre-select” basis. This means that students submit a resume via TartanTrak to a specific company. The company reviews all the resumes and decides which students they want to interview. The students chosen are referred to as “pre-selected.” The employer can also choose “alternate” candidates. Alternate student sign-up begins 4 days after the pre-select sign-up begins; so interview sign-ups may be full before alternates have a chance to sign up.

Participating in a Pre-Select

To participate in a Preselect interview you must first submit a resume to the company, which is reviewed by the recruiter. If they would like to interview you then they will preselect you on InterviewTRAK.

IMPORTANT: Dates can and will change, so be sure to check the site periodically.

Pre-selected?
You are responsible for finding out your interview status. The employer is not required by the system to email you.

DO NOT RELY ON BEING CONTACTED BY THE COMPANY.
Check on your pre-select status under Personal Dates (see personal dates)

DO NOT WAIT TO SIGN UP AS ALTERNATES CAN SIGN UP BEFORE THE PRE-SELECT SIGN-UPS END. AS A PRE-SELECT YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED AND INTERVIEW TIME.

What to do when you have been Pre-Selected

  • In the Personal Dates box select the Events I am Pre-Selected or an Alternate for option from the drop down menu and click the Display Dates button.
  • Note the Signup Date Range of any interviews that you are selected for.
  • Click on the ID# to the left of Event Information.
  • Click on Sign up for this interview on the Recruiting Description page
    *All InterviewTRAK dates begin at 3:00am EST (Pittsburgh Time) and all deadlines are 2:59am EST (Pittsburgh Time) .
  • Select your desired time slot then click on Sign Up. You will be taken to a Success page. You may want to print the Success page out for your records.

Note: Sign up during the sign-up date range. Never schedule back-to-back interviews.
