The Pittsburgh Connections program is coordinated through the Office of Student Activities and is generously funded by the RK Mellon Foundation, the Dozzi family, and the Division of Student Affairs. The program strives to engage students in outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and cultural awareness throughout Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. The core goals of these activities are to help students develop and maintain a physically active lifestyle, build leadership skills, and increase their appreciation for the Western Pennsylvania region.

The main activities coordinated through Pittsburgh Connections are:

Outdoor Adventures: weekly outdoor recreation trips on Saturdays or Sundays throughout the academic year offered to all CMU students at a heavily subsidized cost.  Past trips include white water rafting, kayaking, biking, hiking, caving, and more.

Adventures with Impact: once per month service trips that focus on environment stewardship.  These serve as our opportunity to give back to the environment so that we can protect our natural resources and continue to enjoy outdoor recreational activities.

Arts Pass Program: free access to several museums and venues throughout Pittsburgh at any time of the year.  Students simply show their CMU ID to gain entrance.

To showcase these programs, the Office of Student Activities sponsors free Pittsburgh Connections trips during Orientation for all incoming first-year students.  Visit our Pittsburgh Connections: Orientation Kickoff Events page for more information.

In addition to these programs there are several other ways to get connected to the City of Pittsburgh. Stop by the Pittsburgh Connections Vendor Fair on Friday, August 23 from noon-1:30 under the Baker Lawn tent or explore our many neighborhoods through 57 Varieties of the City. Participate in these trips and you will feel like a native Pittsburgher in no time!
