Get Engaged On Campus

Class of 2018+,

After learning about ways to 'Get Engaged Off Campus' and in the Pittsburgh community, the Office of Student Activities also coordinates a variety of opportunities that will help get you engaged on campus. In addition to the huge variety of organizations, events, and activities, many students also take advantage of having an on-campus job, a process that is coordinated through the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC).

Student Organizations

Carnegie Mellon University is home to 280+ student-run organizations recognized by Student Government. Groups span a wide variety of interests and passions representing religious/spiritual, community service/philanthropy, student government, media/publications, club sports/martial arts, professional/academic, political/activism, performance/artistic, gaming, technology, and general interest opportunities.

To learn more about our student organizations, please visit The Bridge. Browse organizations and events happening on and off campus. The Bridge can point you in the right direction to building your community on campus.

Volunteer Fair

On Thursday, August 28th over 50 Pittsburgh non-profits and CMU service-focused student organizations will be on the CFA Lawn from 11:30am-1:30pm to talk with you about the many ways you can volunteer with other CMU students, locally impact a particular social issue or cause, and explore the wide variety of international and domestic service trips.

Activities Fair

On Wednesday, September 3rd on the CFA Lawn from 4:30-6:30 p.m., you are invited to carve out your niche on campus. There will be 180 student organizations showcasing their unique impact on campus. You will have an opportunity to meet student organization leaders and learn more about what our organizations do.

Pittsburgh Connections Fair

On Monday, September 22nd from 11am-2pm, you can explore everything Pittsburgh has to offer without leaving campus.  Join us at this vendor fair to learn more about the hundreds of fun activities throughout our City.  We’ll have vendors specializing in outdoor recreation (whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, etc.), arts (museums, performances, exhibits, etc.), and cultural must-do’s (festivals, tours, attractions, etc.).

Late Night

There is always something to do on Friday and Saturday night at CMU.  Join us at Late Night where you can enjoy performances and events by our various student organizations, interact with new people, and have a fun evening in the CUC, the Cohon University Center! Look for upcoming events on The Bridge.

Student Employment

Student Employment at Carnegie Mellon is more than just a job: it is an opportunity to develop professionally and personally outside the classroom. This program serves all full-time students regardless of work-study eligibility status. Campus jobs are advertised in TartanTRAK, Carnegie Mellon’s online recruiting system. New students are able to login to TartanTRAK after July 1, 2014. For more information on what you need to know to work on-campus, please visit student employment.

The Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) encourages first year students to connect early with the CPDC to get started on their career path. There are a variety of programs and events offered by CPDC throughout the year. For more information, visit the CPDC website and in person.
