International Students
Students in the U.S. on nonimmigrant visas (most commonly F-1 or J-1) who are going abroad during the academic year should meet with a Foreign Student Advisor before leaving, as their immigration status may be affected.
International Students going abroad during the summer do not have to make an appointment unless they are graduating, will be on OPT or are changing programs. However, they should ensure that their I-20 or DS-2019 has been signed within the last six months or year, respectively. Signatures take 3 business days.
To make an appointment with a Foreign Student Advisor call 412-268-5231.
International Students should contact the embassy of their home country when they arrive in their host country. Many countries have a registration process that will alert students if any large scale emergency occurs and/or if an evacuation is necessary.
