Routine Gynecological Care

The Student Health Services recognizes the diverse health care needs of young women and has designed a program to meet those needs.

Who should have a gynecological examination?

All young women who are sexually active or are 21 years of age and older should obtain an annual gynecological exam including a pap smear.

Why should I have an examination?

  • To have your breasts examined and be instructed on self-breast examination
  • To have a PAP smear taken to ensure that the cells on your cervix are healthy
  • To have your uterus and ovaries examined
  • To discuss contraception, safer sex and other concerns about your health and well-being
