Poison Emergencies

A poison is anything that gets into the body that can cause harm to a person. There are four ways a poison can get into the body. These ways are by ingestion, by breathing in, by injection, and by absorption through the skin. If you suspect someone has been poisoned, you should:

  • Make sure it is safe for you to approach the victim
  • Check for level of consciousness, pulse, and breathing
  • Call the Poison Control Center at (412) 681-6669 or Campus Police at 8-2323
  • Administer CRP or rescue breathing if you know how to do so
