Dehydration

Dehydration is caused by insufficient intake of fluids or body fluid loss from fever, vomiting or diarrhea. Symptoms include weakness, headache, dizziness and body aches.

If you are dehydrated:

  • Drink more than 8 - 10 glasses of fluids every 24 hours.
  • Eat Saltine crackers or pretzels to increase thirst.
  • Take acetaminophen to treat fever.
  • Seek medical attention if you are unable to take fluids because of persistent vomiting and for diarrhea lasting more than 48 to 72 hours.
